General Information

  1. Public Voting Announcement Press Conference
    • Details of the public voting for the Awards will be announced at the Public Voting Announcement Press Conference to be held on Sunday, 12 January 2014
  2. Public Voting
    • Public voting will be conducted from 12 January 2014 to 12 February 2014. Detailed information and nominees’ profiles will be posted on the Samsung 2013 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards official website (http://sportstar2013.hkolympic.org) in due course
    • Elected officers and the staff members of national sports associations are not allowed to vote for their nominees. Voting of such will be deemed invalid
  3. Awards Presentation Ceremony
    • Results of the Awards will be announced at the Awards Presentation Ceremony to be held on Thursday, 13 March 2014 at the Grand Hall, 3/F, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
    • Ceremony details will be announced in due course
  4. The Organizer reserves all rights to interpret / amend the rules and regulations, nomination of additional athletes/ teams, as well as to maintain the final decision on the results

HONG KONG SPORTS STARS AWARDS

Nomination:
ONLY one athlete from each national sports association is to be nominated
Votes:
All nominees will be voted by the following three parties:
  1. Judging Panel (Voting Percentage: 60%)
  2. Local sports editors / reporters (Voting Percentage: 20%)
  3. Public (Voting Percentage: 20%)
Winners:
Eight nominees with highest votes will be awarded

* One of the eight winners in the category of Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards with the highest votes will be awarded Samsung Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Award

HONG KONG JUNIOR SPORTS STARS AWARDS

Nomination:
ONLY one athlete aged 18 or below on or before 31 December 2013 (born on or after 1 January 1995) from each national sports association is to be nominated
Votes:
All nominees will be voted by the following three parties:
  1. Judging Panel (Voting Percentage: 60%)
  2. Local sports editors / reporters (Voting Percentage: 20%)
  3. Public (Voting Percentage: 20%)
Winners:
Six nominees with highest votes will be awarded

HONG KONG SPORTS STARS AWARD FOR TEAM ONLY SPORT

Nomination:
  • ONLY one team from each national sports association is to be nominated
  • Team Only Sport is defined as the sport with no individual event category, in which success depends on the interaction and interdependence of the whole team during the competition
  • The following national sports associations are eligible to submit nomination for this award:

  • Team Event is defined as different forms of combination of an individual sport (e.g. double, relay or team)

All nominated team will be voted by the following three parties:
  1. Judging Panel (Voting Percentage: 60%)
  2. Local sports editors / reporters (Voting Percentage: 20%)
  3. Public (Voting Percentage: 20%)
Winners:
Two teams with highest votes will be awarded

HONG KONG POTENTIAL SPORTS STARS AWARDS

Nomination:
  • ONLY one athlete from each national sports association is to be nominated
  • There is no age limit for this category
  • Past winners of any categories of this Awards (including the Awards held from 1986 to 1999) are not eligible to be nominated for this category
  • Current nominees of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards, Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards, Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport and Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event are not eligible to be nominated for this category
Votes:
All nominees will be voted by the Judging Panel (Voting Percentage: 100%)
Winners:
Four nominees with highest votes will be awarded

HONG KONG SPORTSMANSHIP SPORTS STARS AWARD

Nomination:
  • ONLY one athlete from each national sports association is to be nominated
  • The selection criteria is mainly based on nominee’s contribution to the Olympic Movement, sportsmanship and his / her role model influence to the sports community
  • There is no age limit for this category
  • Current nominees of other five awards categories are also eligible to be nominated for this category
Votes:
All nominees will be voted by the Judging Panel (Voting Percentage: 100%)
Winners:
One nominees with highest votes will be awarded

  1. Winners of Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards will each receive:
    • A trophy
    • Cash award of HK$33,000*

    Winner of the Samsung Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Award will receive:

    • A trophy
    • Cash award of HK$55,000*

  2. Winners of Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards will each receive:
    • A trophy
    • Cash award of HK$11,000*
  3. Winning team of Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport will receive:
    • A trophy
    • Cash award of HK$55,000*
  4. Winning teams of Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event will each receive:
    • A trophy
    • Cash award of HK$36,000*
  5. Winners of Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards will each receive:
    • A trophy
    • Cash award of HK$8,800*
  6. Winner of Hong Kong Sportsmanship Sports Stars Award will receive:
    • A trophy
    • Cash award of HK$8,800*
  7. Each nominee will receive a souvenir
* The cash award will be shared among the awardees in the same category if tied situation occur

Selection Procedure

The selection procedure is divided into two steps:

1st step:
All member national sports associations of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) will be invited to put up nomination. The nomination procedure of each sport will be entirely up to the respective national sports association.
2nd step:
All nominations will be voted by different parties to select the winners.

Nomination Criteria

  1. Only affiliated members of the SF&OC are eligible to put up nomination for the Awards
  2. Nomination must be made by an authorized elected officer of the respective national sports association
  3. All nominees must represent one national sports association only in all award categories
  4. All nominees must have competed in local open competitions or represented Hong Kong to compete in international competitions during the Awards Period and obtained outstanding results
  5. Nominees’ competition result submitted by the respective national sports association should be tallied with the nominated category
  6. The nominees of the Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards must be aged 18 or below on or before 31 December 2013 (born on or after 1 January 1995) and should demonstrate great potential in his/her respective sport
  7. The nominees of Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards must achieve outstanding performance in both local and international competitions in the past three years
  8. The nominated team must have participated in local open competitions or represented Hong Kong to compete in international competitions during the Awards Period and obtained good team results
  9. The competitions stated in the nomination form/s should be specified whether they were sanctioned by the respective International Federation/Asian Federation
  10. All nominees must be a holder of Hong Kong Identity Card

Nomination Procedure

  1. Awards Period: 1 December 2012 to 30 November 2013
  2. Nomination is to be done electronically via the internet at Samsung 2013 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards official website (http://sportstar2013.hkolympic.org). Online nomination system would be opened for data submission from now till 15 December 2013
  3. Please submit the Nomination Form/s generated from the online system, duly declared and signed by the nominated athlete/s or team representative and one NSA Elected Officer with NSA seal, together with the following items to the Secretariat of SF&OC at 2/F, Olympic House, 1 Stadium Path, So Kon Po, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong on or before 5:00 pm, 13 December 2013 (Please mark “Samsung 2013 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards Nomination Form/s” on the envelope):
    • For individual nominees, please submit one recent passport size photo (White background) and one action photo;
    • For teams, please submit one recent passport size photo of each athlete (White background) and one team photo; and
    • Please put down the name of the athlete and the respective national sports association on the back of each photo
  4. Online nomination system will be closed after 5:00 pm, 13 December 2013. Late submission of the nomination form will not be accepted
  5. Nomination form cannot be amended, withdrawn or substituted after submission
  6. All nomination forms must be duly declared and signed with Association’s seal. Incomplete nomination form/s will not be accepted

Obligation of the athletes and teams

  1. All nominees are obliged to attend all functions of the Samsung 2013 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards.
  2. All nominees are also obliged to assist the Organizer in associated publicity activities
  3. In order to be eligible for any of the award categories in the Awards, when nominating the athletes / teams, NSAs should ensure that the nominees are available and be present to accept the award/s at the Awards Presentation Ceremony cum SF&OC Spring Dinner on 13 March 2014. Exemption would only be granted in the following grounds :
    • (i) Who would be representing Hong Kong to participate in the multi-sports Games, World Championship or Asian Championship of its own sport and might be unable to attend the Awards Presentation Ceremony. However, NSAs must inform the Federation the absence of its nominees and the reason in writing, when the nomination is submitted.
    • (ii) Absence of athletes due to sickness or accident and has to be hospitalized could also be exempted with medical certificate submitted to the Federation by the doctor of the said hospital.
    • (iii) Other reasons to be approved and subject to the discretion of the Management Panel consisting the President, Hon. Secretary General of SF&OC and Chairperson of HKSSA Organizing Committee and the decision thereof shall be final and conclusive.
  4. If the athletes or teams violated any of the above obligations, their award eligibility will be forfeited.
  5. The Title Sponsor, Samsung Electronics H.K. Co. Ltd. would have the priority to approach the winner of the Samsung Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards on the endorsement of its brand/or products during the year of 2014, until the commencement of the next awards, but this is subject to the negotiation between the NSA and Samsung.
